Each year the Fireworks season seems to start earlier and last longer than the year before. Many pets can be very scared by the loud and sudden noises and flashes that they don't normally hear or see.
There are things that you can do to help your pets through this time and products that can help.
It can be hard with new puppies & kittens that have not experienced this before, as you may not know how they will react.
There are a number of products, which can help, such as the Company of Animals Clix Sounds CD, which features not only fireworks noises but also people and transport to desensitise your pet. There are also natural products to help calm your cat or dog through what can be a traumatic experience. Mark & Chappell's Serene-um can be a great help.
Distraction can also help. Engage your cat or dog in play with an interactive toy to help keep them distracted - this can also be useful whilst playing the CD. Some pets just prefer to take themselves off into a quiet area so make sure there is a suitable place for them with a comfy blanket and a chew toy. You can also set up a radio in this area to help cover the loud bangs.
Safety - during fireworks pets can become unpredictable to it is vital that they are kept safe with all doors and windows kept shut and cat flaps and dog doors locked closed and make sure if your dog needs to go out in the garden that he is on a lead.
