| Q. | Can I fit a cat flap into a uPVC door? |
| A. | The solid panel at the bottom of most uPCV double glazed doors is made of two sheets of steel separated by an insulating layer. Simply select a cat flap that will accommodate the thickness of this panel. If you require a selective entry flap then be aware that to install a magnetic or electromagnetic cat flap then these need to be insulated from the steel panels of the door by installing a wooden frame into the hole which is cut in the door. If this is not acceptable then it is recommended that an infra-red operated Staywell 500 cat flap be used. |

| Q. | Can I fit a cat flap into a glass window/door? |
| A. | Yes. Double-glazed units: The cat flap manufacturers recommend this should only be done at the time the glass unit is manufactured. So if a cat flap is to be fitted to an existing double-glazed door/window it will be necessary to have a new sealed glass unit made with an appropriately sized hole for the flap. This unit can then be fitted to the existing frame. We recommend you consult a local double-glazing company before purchasing a cat flap. There are a variety of cat flaps that can be fitted into double glazed units including PetMate Glass Fitting, PetMate Electromagnetic Glass Fitting, and the Staywell 300, 400 and 500 models. Single glazing: Requires a circular hole to be cut. We recommend you contact a local glazing company to arrange this. Sliding Doors: This can only be done where the cat flap will not foul other parts of the door. The flap will protrude either side of the glass pane. We recommend the slimline Staywell 270 or Staywell 280 cat flaps for this situation. |

| Q. | How do I stop other cats coming into my house? |
| A. | Fit a selective entry magnetic of infra-red operated cat flap. See below. |
|
| Q. | What is a selective entry (magnetic/battery operated) cat flap? |
| A. | This is a cat flap with a lock operated by a key worn on the cat's collar. Don't worry they don't have to be able to put the key in the lock, just move up to the flap. There are two types of selective entry cat flap, magnetic and infra-red. Both types require a your cat to wear a collar key which when they approach the cat flap is detected by the flap. When the cat flap detects this, the lock is released allowing your cat to enter. Magnetic flaps will prevent entry by other cats unless they too are wearing a magnetic collar key. The Staywell 500 Infra-Red cat flap requires the cat to wear a colour coded key that has been programmed to your cat flap so only allowing your cat to enter. This model has a choice of 4 colours for the cat flap keys. This means that if your neighbour has the same model cat flap using blue keys you can use yellow keys for your cat(s). this prevents your cats entering your neighbours house and vice versa. Spare/additional keys are available for all selective entry cat flaps. Please note that the selective entry aspect of these flaps only works for entry into the house. |

| Q. | How big are the collar keys? |
| A. | | Flap Type | Size (approx.) | Weight (approx.) |
| | | Staywell Magnetic Flap | 14mm diameter | 8 gms |
| | | Staywell 500 Infra-Red Operated Flap | 16 x 18mm | 12 gms |
| | | PetMate Magnetic Flap | 13 x 17 x 18mm | 12 gms |
|
| Q. | I want to keep one of my cats in whilst letting the other(s) go out. What can I do? |
| A. | At this time we are unaware of a selective entry cat flap that is selective for both entry and exit. All known selective cat flaps are selective on entry only and allow any cat to exit. |
|
| Q. | Can I fit a cat flap through a wall? |
| A. | Yes. There are two options when fitting a cat flap through a wall. For Staywell flaps simply purchase a suitable number of clip together tunnel extensions to fit the depth of the wall. E.g. If you have a wall which is 230mm deep, each tunnel extension is 47mm. So dividing 230mm by 47mm gives 5 (rounded) tunnels extensions required. The Staywell 300, 400 and 500 range cat flaps come with one tunnel extension included so you would need to purchase 4 Staywell 310 or 330 extensions. For PetMate (CatMate) cat flaps it is recommended that the hole through the wall is lined with 19mm plywood and the inner and outer parts of the cat flap are screwed to this. |
|
| Q. | Can I fit a magnetic operated cat flap in the steel panel of a uPVC door? |
| A. | Yes, but the flap must be insulated from the steel using a timber insert as detailed in the installation instruction supplied with the cat flap. Alternatively you can fit a Staywell 500 Infra-red operated cat flap which will not require the timber framing. |

| Q. | I have a Staywell battery-operated cat flap and need to reprogram it but have lost the instructions. Can you help? |
| A. | Each collar key must be programmed separately. Before beginning to programme your cat flap, ensure that all electrical appliances near the cat flap are switched off. In particular televisions, computers, fridges, freezers and mobile telephones, even if they are not in the same room. After you have powered the cat flap it will begin to emit a high tone single bleep indicating the first collar key is ready for programming. In addition to the bleep the red LED will flash. Place the collar key with the arrow pointing towards the centre of the flap. For best programming results, the collar key should touch the centre of the flap. Press the programme button and hold down until you hear a low buzz after approximately 1 second. The LED will flash again at this point. Release the programme button and then remove the collar key which is now programmed. The cat flap will now emit a high tone double bleep which indicates that it is ready for programming the second collar key. Repeat the procedure as above. The LED will flash twice at this point. If the operating range of the collar key is too short, preventing your cat from gaining access, reprogramme the collar key a few centimetres away from the flap. Please note that under no circumstances should the collar key be programmed at more than 100mm (4") away as the cat flap will malfunction. Copyright 1999 Reilor Ltd. |
